Happy Saturday everybody!
How are you all doing?
I am down with the flu, so I have ample of time to kill (on Instagram), because I can’t really speak.
Send prayers, please!
Anyway, Instagram is a madhouse right now because The Ambani Gala is everywhere- from what people are wearing to the songs they are dancing to- the world is going crazy!
Well, I don’t blame the world.
Ambanis make the world go cray-cray with extravagant decor and guests.
They do the most bizarre things like serving dessert with INR notes- they know propaganda.
They know how to get people talking about them.
And that’s the whole point!
If I were you, I’d take notes
Celebrities ko (ishaaron me) nachvana is an Ambani thing now.
Imagine being a celebrity or a top-class artist or a successful influencer and not going to the Ambani Fest- you’re losing out on relevance!
And relevance is the silent ‘r‘ in ShowBiz.
Anyway, the pressing “What’s with Ambanis and their obsession with celebrities?” question will always remain a mystery,
But let’s first understand what relevance does NMACC (the new cultural center in Mumbai, for those of you who are unaware) really hold and how will it impact (good and/or bad) Indian fashion.
But first,
Let’s have fun looking at some amazing memes about NMACC
From GeGe to Gigilika, people are going bonkers!
If I missed out on any good meme, please share
Let the show begin!
#1- MEMES
#2- Duolingo said
Hum kyu peeche hatey?
#3- Maharanis
Celebrities and influencers were legit looking like Maharanis with finely embroidered ensembles and jewelry with intricate details crafted by uber-skilled artisans of our country.
Artisans are the heart of Indian fashion.
Sonam Kapoor’s reel showcases a Chanakya(the brand) outfit that took 4500 hours to make!
They did not have a “YASS KWEEEEN“ moment
They had a “Maharani ki jai ho“ moment
Designers, artisans, make-up artists, stylists, and all the people that make up the glam world had been preparing for this event for more than a year.
From KJo to Gigi Hadid, these walking billboards were clad in gold.
#4- Too much & Too little
Sabyasachi is one of the most celebrated designers of the country for a reason.
He’s the man who put Indian craft and couture on the world map.
And he was nowhere to be seen, and when I say seen, I mean, physical presence.
Celebrities like Natasha Poonawalla aced the Sabya embroidered gown.
Rahul Mishra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Anamika Khanna dressed the most renowned celebrities.
We saw a lot of Dior in (Gateway of)India
And a lot of India in Dior(‘s official Instagram page)
#5- Out of the world
Of course, no major fashion event is complete without people talking about outfits that have an uncanny resemblance to bizarre things.
Now that we’re done with the fun,
Let’s get to the factual part of the Cultural Center.
NMACC is said to be an important step towards showcasing, embracing and popularizing the art and culture of India at a global level.
It is India’s multi-disciplinary cultural space.
NMACC has got all the resources it requires.
Conservators, audio guides, proper security, food and sanitation, and even specialists who know how to install vintage garments.
It showcases India’s finest offerings in art and culture.
The opening ceremony was as exciting as the Met Gala- designers and artisans worked day in and day out finalizing their muses and giving life to their designs.
After all, whoever attended the event was literally a walking billboard showcasing fine Indian craftsmanship.
The highlight of day 3 of the opening ceremony was the launch of the book “India in Fashion“ by Nita Ambani.
It highlights the impact of Indian craftsmanship and textiles on the international market, as well as the birth and development of the contemporary Indian fashion industry that was once thriving before we got colonized.
Post-partition, amongst the push-and-pull between reform and revival, India lost its shringaar, which people are trying to revive.
Now that fashion history has been approved by the top 1%, people might take interest in this subject for a change!
People might not want to read thick books on Indian Fashion History that are kept in a corner of some fashion school in the country.
But they surely would want a copy of India in Fashion.
Such is the influence exerted by Ambaniverse.
But the question still remains-
Will the Karigars get the recognition they deserve?
Will they get to lead a better quality of life where they’re getting the bare minimum at least?
The Karigars have always been ignored and downplayed.
Kudos to certain Instagram channels that vouch for these talented artisans making stunning outfits that are shown on the carpet- be it red or pink.
What do you think about the current state of the artisans in India?
Let me know.
Until then,
Have a fabulous week ahead
Toodeloo!
Haha loved the memes!
